SAE 1020 tube consists mainly of 0.18-0.23% carbon, traces of manganese (0.30-0.60%), phosphorus (max 0.04%), and sulfur (max 0.05%). SAE 1020 is a low-carbon steel that provides good machinability, weldability, and formability. Its tensile strength is between 320-450 MPa, and yield strength is generally between 275-350 MPa. With fair hardness (about 120 HB), SAE 1020 is suitable for structural uses where moderate toughness and strength are needed. It also has good corrosion resistance upon treatment and is thus applicable in many industrial and engineering applications.
