In its untreated state, it provides moderate machinability and a good surface finish, while heat-treated EN9 plates can achieve a tensile strength range of 600–800 MPa. This grade can be flame or induction hardened to enhance wear resistance while maintaining core toughness. EN9 steel is also suitable for oil quenching and tempering, striking a great balance between hardness and machinability.
