EN24 is crafted from a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, featuring a typical chemical makeup of 0.36–0.44% carbon, 1.30–1.80% nickel, 0.90–1.40% chromium, and 0.20–0.35% molybdenum. This unique blend delivers impressive tensile strength (usually between 850–1000 MPa when quenched and tempered), along with excellent toughness, good ductility, and high fatigue resistance. Additionally, EN24 boasts good wear resistance and can be induction or flame hardened to enhance surface hardness while maintaining core toughness. It’s also suitable for machining and can be welded using appropriate methods, although preheating and post-weld heat treatment are advisable.
