The High Carbon Steel C45 sheets and plates are medium carbon steel products characterized by high strength, good machinability, and good wear resistance. These plates and sheets have extensive applications in engineering and industrial sectors requiring moderate hardness as well as toughness. C45 steel is available in normalized, annealed, or hardened and tempered conditions as per the needs of fabrication processes. It offers a consistent compromise between strength and ductility and thus finds wide application in manufacturing, construction, and automobile industries. C45 steel plates and sheets are supplied in a number of sizes and thicknesses for structural use and custom engineering.
C45 steel has a typical composition of 0.42% to 0.50% carbon and 0.50% to 0.80% manganese, along with trace sulfurs and phosphors. It has a tensile strength of about 570 to 700 MPa and a yield strength of approximately 330 MPa, depending on the heat treatment. The alloy is of good impact resistance, average hardness, and does not lose machinability when annealed. After suitable heat treatment, the alloy can be subjected to high surface hardness with a hard core. Weldability is poor and can be preheated or subjected to post-weld treatment for optimum results.
